HASH
RULES. OK!
Rule 1 Hashing does not
have rules What it does is etiquette and a Grand Master who can do what he likes
'cos there arn't any rules!
THE
RUN.
Call "ON ON" when
you are on the flour trail This not just apply to the front runners. People at
the rear also need to know where the trail is Never call 'ON ON' unless you are
within 5 metres of the trail Many a good hash has been spoilt by runners calling
'ON ON' leading others away from the trail If someone else is
ON' then you shout 'ON ON CALLED' and you point towards the caller.
OTHER CALLS
‘CHECKING' which
means that you are at a check and looking for the trail.
'LOOKING'. which means
you have lost the trail .,
'ARE YOU' when you
don't know what's happening and you want to find out who is on the trail

THE PENCIL. Each week the
pencil. a large red phallic object. is passed on to an unsuspecting Hasher who
becomes the Pencil for that week s run Their Job is to write a piece for the
hash Wurdz about the run and fax/e-mail it to the Editor The Pencil can not be
refused
Tip:Using
font size 356 to reduce words is not allowed!
PREPERATIONS.
Flour can be purchased in 5Okg bags from Oman Flour Mills the souks and
Royal Guard SAF shop Cost is about 6 rials, which can be reimbursed from Hash
Cash. Unused flour can be passed on to the next week's hares
The hares for next week
recover and collect the signs from the run before.
They should find out
how many signs were put out so that none are missed.
For safety do not place
signs on the motorway start after the roundabout Put a turning sign about 20
metres before a junction so that there is time to brake and turned safely
without causing a six car pile up
If you have enough signs
mark a long stretch of road periodically so that we know we have not missed the
turn off
The off-road part of the
journey should not be an attempt to compete with the Paris-Dakar Rally Try to
organise it so that a saloon car can reach the chariot park within easy distance
of tarmac and graded road
Hares also supply the wood
for the BBQ fire
LAYING
THE TRAIL.
The aim is to get people to
run not give them an eyesight test. Use plenty of flour you should be able to
see flour from One mark to the next. The distance between them will depend on
the terrain
The length of the run should be timed to last about 40 minutes and can be reduced to 30 minutes if the start is in a way out place creating the possibility of people arriving late. As a rough guide if it takes 1 hour 30 minutes to lay the trail (plus Planning time) on easy terrain, that is about the right length.
In terrain where running is
difficult it shouldn't take more than an hour to lay.
Allow plenty of shortcuts
for families, aged and lame.
During the summer months have a water stop either on the trail or at a
check.
If the trail is particularly
difficult then lay an alternative ‘Weenies’ Trail. The usual notation for a
split in the trail is K or keenies and W' for weenies.
Checks are used to allow
stragglers to catch up and keep the pack together. A check is marked by a circle
False trails can be laid from a check to keep the front runners entertained
while the rest catch up
The end of a false trail is
marked with he letter T AII trails should start within a 5O metre radius of he
check: no more.
Mark the end of the run with ON HOME. A suitable distance from the chariot park so that a trail is not necessary from then on.
